About Homaira Khatun
Artist, Educator, Community Builder
Homaira Khatun is the owner and an artist of Arts & Thoughts Studio, a gallery and art training center in Teays Valley, West Virginia. She experiments with new design concepts, exploring color, form, and negative space in a three-dimensional space. Line, shape, and texture are dominant in her design work and tableware. Her creative patterns are inspired by geometric motifs reminiscent of Aztec pottery and African art. Combining her South Asian upbringing of art and her professional background in architecture, she brings her 3D art to life in a different dimension.
Homaira's clay art and paintings are available and have been sold in many different galleries. Her work has been published in state and national editorials and exhibited in several juried exhibitions, as well as solo exhibitions on women issues.
Homaira obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Engineering and Technology, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Charleston, West Virginia. She has worked at architectural companies in Philadelphia and worked on R & D and commercial buildings. She also attended Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, as well as many national and international ceramic and sculpture workshops.
She designed and constructed her art studio in 2010 to offer a creative art community in the region. She teaches visual art and design conception along with pottery to adults and children. She believes that "Art is a language to find yourself" and "creative mind for healthy living."
Her other pursuits include creative writing, and traveling to interact with different cultures. She published three books in Bengali Language.
