Homaira Khatun, owner, artist and instructor of Arts & Thoughts Studio, a gallery and art training center in Teays Valley, West Virginia. As an artist and social worker, Homaira promotes her personal enlightening philosophy of creativity, non-prejudice and equal rights through her paintings and 3-D sculptures. She had several solo art shows on empowering women. Her pottery also carries influences of ancient art, ethnic and South Asian design. She teaches visual art/design along with pottery to adults and children.
Homaira obtained B-Arch from University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and BA, majoring Fine Arts, from University of Charleston, West Virginia USA. She used to work in architectural companies in Philadelphia and worked on research and development facilities and commercial buildings. She designed and constructed her art studio in 2010 to offer a creative art community with family and friends in the neighborhood.
Homaira loves to work with children and encourages them innovative positive thinking through art. She believes in "creative mind for healthy living" and childhood is the best time to plant the seeds. According to her "I am trying to learn the hidden language by which an artist aspires as a whole in the community and as an individual."
Alteration of traditional pottery to a human face along with cut out techniques, curving, texturing and oxide staining on a raw claw is her signature work. Her signature series of table ware has a great demand and become a best seller in gallery.
Homaira's art-work is juried in different galleries and her work was published in state and national magazines. She is featured in newspapers as an artist as well as an educator. Homaira is professionally selling her pottery and sculptures about 14 years to different galleries. Her hobby is writing, cooking, and traveling to learn about different cultures. In her native language Bengali, she published short stories and poetry books.
